Ryan Moore hails Diamond Necklace as ‘proper racing machine’

Ryan Moore described Diamond Necklace as a ‘proper racing machine’ after she completed her sixth win in a row on Thursday. The winner of the French 1,000 Guineas and French Oaks clinched her third Group 1 victory of the year in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.

The 4-6 favourite won in straightforward fashion, cruising up to Friendly Soul and pulling away to score by two and three-quarter lengths.

Moore’s praise

“That's the best she's felt, she's improving with her racing,” said Moore. “She gives you a classy feel. Every time I've rode her she's travelled with loads of pace, loads of enthusiasm and she has a turn of foot.

“It was very easy. She's improved. She was very impressive today. She just feels like a proper racing machine now, doing everything right, travelled, quickened, does what she has to do.”

Moore added: “I think 10 [furlongs] is probably her optimum but with those classy horses, she does everything right so there's a chance she'd stay further, she'd have no trouble dropping back as well. We'll see I suppose. I can't answer that question [trip and next race].”

Future plans

Diamond Necklace and the colt Constitution River are Aidan O’Brien’s two top three-year-olds this year, either of which could be considered for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. O’Brien said: “Whether she stays at a mile and a quarter and goes to the fillies' race in France, or to Leopardstown or an Arc trial, she's got all of those things open to her and she goes on soft ground as well as fast ground.

“Constitution River will get all the options too. At the moment he's going to York, so we're looking forward to him. The lads are never afraid to run against one another, but we'll get the next one out of the way and see where we're at.”
