Coin collectors are being urged to check their change for a rare 2016 £1 coin that could be worth up to 60 times its face value. The coin features a tiny crosslet cross privy mark, which is easy to miss but highly sought after by enthusiasts.
According to the Coin Collecting Wizard on TikTok, the mark is located on the reverse side of the coin, below the crown and above the word 'one'. He explained that only a limited number of these coins were produced with the special marking, making them valuable.
'Most 2016 £1 coins look the same as the later ones, but some of them have a tiny crosslet cross privy mark near the bottom left,' he said. 'This mark was added only for special sets and only a limited number of coins have it.'
While a standard 2016 £1 coin is worth just £1, those with the privy mark can sell for £60 or more. At the time of writing, one such coin was listed on eBay for £94.29.
