Lord Saatchi, the co-founder of advertising agencies Saatchi and Saatchi and M&C Saatchi, has presented BBC Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman with a leaving gift. Paxman is set to host his final show on Wednesday after 25 years at the helm of the news programme.
The gift, a first edition copy of Friedrich von Hayek's The Road to Serfdom, was handed over by Lord Saatchi, who remarked that he was giving it to Paxman on behalf of all of his victims. The book, first published in 1944, is a classic work of political philosophy that argues against central planning and for free markets.
Paxman, known for his tough interviewing style, has been a fixture on Newsnight since 1989. His departure marks the end of an era for the BBC's flagship current affairs programme.
