Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is facing a potential £1 million loss after investing in a firm that has collapsed into administration. The Metropolitan Police are investigating allegations of fraud connected to Fortress Capital Partners, which was run by McTominay's fiancée Cameron Reading and her father Ashley.
The company, which lent investors' money for property purchases, went into administration in September. Administrators Begbies Traynor have said investors are expected to recover only 10p for every £1 invested. Other high-profile investors reportedly include Boyzone star Shane Lynch and reality TV personality Mario Falcone.
Police confirmed they are investigating after a referral from Action Fraud. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: 'Officers from the economic crime team are investigating allegations of fraud. There have been no arrests.'
Administrators allege that Fortress repaid certain debts using funds from new investors, who believed their money would be used for future investments rather than covering past losses. This led to an overall loss of approximately £3.1 million, all funded by investors.
Ashley Reading, the firm's director, said he was assisting administrators to achieve the best outcome for creditors and was not aware of the police investigation. Cameron Reading has been approached for comment. A spokesperson for McTominay stated in November that the player had no involvement with Fortress.
