Harry Maguire Signs New Manchester United Deal After Carrick Resurgence

Manchester United have confirmed that Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract, keeping him at the club until June 2027, with an option for a further year. The 33-year-old defender was set to become a free agent this summer but has earned an extension following his revival under interim manager Michael Carrick.

Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City for a record £80 million in 2019, has been a key figure since Carrick took charge in January, helping the team climb to third in the Premier League. His form also earned him a recall to the England squad, putting him in contention for the World Cup.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said. “I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters.” He added that the squad’s ambition and determination to win major trophies is clear, and he believes their best moments lie ahead.

Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s mentality and resilience, calling him “the ultimate professional” whose experience and leadership are invaluable to the young squad. Maguire has won two trophies with United—the Carabao Cup and FA Cup—and remains one of the most influential figures in the dressing room.

Carrick earlier described Maguire’s experience as “massive” and “hard to put a price on”. Maguire is currently with the squad in Dublin for a training camp, though he is suspended for the next match against Leeds on Monday after a red card against Bournemouth.
