A couple from County Kerry were celebrating a €500,000 (£432,000) EuroMillions Plus win, but their joy almost turned to despair when the winning ticket went missing hours after the draw. The woman purchased the ticket on impulse at Con's Shop in Cork, Ireland, on the day of the draw, January 27, and scanned it using the National Lottery app that evening, discovering they had won big.
After learning of the win, the woman's partner hid the ticket for safekeeping but later realised he had hidden it too well. In a panic, he tore the kitchen apart, pulling cupboards apart in a frantic search for the missing slip. He admitted he initially did not want to tell his partner the ticket had vanished. Fortunately, the ticket was eventually recovered, and only then did the couple reveal the close call.
The woman claimed the prize at National Lottery HQ in Dublin this week. She said staying calm initially, as she had to scroll through draw results to figure out the exact amount. The win will allow the couple to fulfil a long-held travel dream: a trip to Asia. The woman said, "We're heading to Asia to do some travelling. It's been on our bucket list for so long, so we can't wait to finally book it."
