Filip Jorgensen has flown back from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia as he closes in on a move to Strasbourg.
Jorgensen was left out of Chelsea’s squad for the pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, and it is understood the 24-year-old has returned to the UK as he edges towards a move to Chelsea’s BlueCo sister club.
Goalkeeper’s Desire for Regular Minutes
Strasbourg have been in the market for a new goalkeeper after loanee Mike Penders returned to Chelsea this summer. Jorgensen has made it clear that he wants regular playing time this season.
The Danish international made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and underwent groin surgery in March, shortly after being brought into the side by then-manager Liam Rosenior.
Jorgensen travelled as part of the 28-man Chelsea squad to Australia and Asia, but has now returned to the UK as he looks to finalise the terms of his departure.
Transfer Developments and Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Situation
News of Jorgensen’s potential move to Strasbourg comes shortly after it was reported that the Ligue 1 side were not pursuing a move for Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
The goalkeeping situation at Chelsea remains open, with manager Xabi Alonso admitting that he does not have a first-choice goalkeeper and that there is competition for the No. 1 spot heading into the new season. Jorgensen, though, does not appear to figure in Alonso’s plans and now looks set to leave Chelsea after two seasons and 36 appearances in all competitions.
It is unclear whether Jorgensen’s exit will see Chelsea enter the market for another goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts.
