A grandmother from Wiltshire has won £142,857 on the Postcode Lottery – 60 years after winning her home in a competition. Pamela Hiscocks, 79, and her husband Anthony, 82, landed the windfall when their postcode, SN12 7HB in Melksham, was drawn as the weekly Millionaire Street prize on Saturday April.
The couple won their three-bedroom bungalow in the 1960s in a contest run by the developers of the new estate. Anthony's winning slogan was 'choose your plot and win the lot'. The house was worth £3,175 at the time, meaning the latest prize is 45 times its original purchase price.
Pamela and Anthony shared a £1 million pot with six other neighbours, including close friend Lesley Rose, 77, who has incurable cancer. Lesley also received £142,857 and said the win is 'just unbelievable'. Pamela expressed her delight at sharing the prize with her friend, saying: 'It's lovely winning with a friend. I'd feel terrible if I'd won and she hadn't.'
The Hiscocks have a history of luck: Anthony previously won the football pools with a work syndicate, netting around £200,000. Now, the couple plan to use their latest winnings to treat their family. Pamela said: 'We'll spend the winnings on family. It's family first, always family first.'
With their granddaughter Amy getting married in August, the couple hope to contribute to the wedding. Anthony said: 'Amy said she wanted a cheque for her wedding. We might be able to put a couple of noughts on it now.' They also plan a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, and Pamela wants a summer house to enjoy her evenings.
