The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that some state pensioners will receive Pension Credit payments of up to £952 early in August due to the summer bank holiday.
Claimants expecting a payment on Monday, August 31 will instead be paid on Friday, August 28. This applies regardless of location within England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
Scotland unaffected
Scotland observes its summer bank holiday on Monday, August 3, four weeks earlier. The DWP confirmed that Scottish claimants due a payment on August 3 will receive it as normal.
The DWP told Express: “Payments will still process as they do for other Scottish Bank Holidays. Government Banking have confirmed that Bacs does not close for Scottish-only Bank Holidays. Scottish customers who would normally receive their payment on the 3rd will still receive it on the 3rd.”
Payment amounts and eligibility
For single claimants, Pension Credit tops up weekly income to £238. Paid every four weeks, those entitled to the full amount can get up to £952 per payment period.
The DWP said: “Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit union account. If your payment date is on a weekend or a Bank Holiday, you’ll usually be paid on the working day before.”
To qualify for Pension Credit, you must live in England, Scotland or Wales and have reached State Pension age. It is available even if you have other income, savings, or own your home.
No action is needed if your payment date changes; the money will go into your usual account automatically.
