Real Madrid are in advanced talks to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande for a reported £100m, a move that could have significant repercussions for Manchester United's summer rebuild.
United's midfield overhaul
Manchester United have already made a strong start to the transfer window, strengthening their midfield ahead of a return to the Champions League. They triggered Youri Tielemans's £35m release clause at Aston Villa and signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea. The club needed to reinvigorate their engine room after Casemiro left at the end of his contract.
United have been linked with Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni as a potential successor to Casemiro. Reports suggest Real would be open to selling the French international for £68m amid speculation about a move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Real Madrid's squad balancing
Diomande's arrival would add to an already crowded Real squad. Although manager Jose Mourinho has stated he does not want to lose key players, the club may need to raise funds for Rodri, who is in the final year of his City contract. City have set an £85m asking price for the playmaker.
Tchouameni's future at the Bernabeu has been uncertain since an altercation with teammate Federico Valverde earlier this year. While that issue may have been resolved, competition for places could leave some stars unhappy with limited game time. Real know they cannot afford a squad bursting with egos and talent, making a sale of Tchouameni a plausible part of their transfer overhaul.
United, returning to the Champions League, remain in the market for a world-class defensive midfielder, and the Diomande deal could be the catalyst that allows Tchouameni to move to Old Trafford.
