Butt: Guardiola exit could hand Man Utd £70m Tchouameni transfer boost
Butt: Guardiola exit could boost Man Utd's Tchouameni chase

Nicky Butt has hinted that Pep Guardiola’s exit from Manchester City could pave the way for Manchester United to secure a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer. The former United midfielder believes the French international, valued at around £70 million, would be an ideal addition to strengthen the club’s midfield options.

Guardiola's Departure and Transfer Implications

Guardiola’s departure from City, confirmed on Friday morning, ends a decade-long tenure filled with trophies. Butt suggests that Rodri’s future at City could hinge on Guardiola’s presence, potentially opening the door for Real Madrid to pursue the Spanish midfielder. This, in turn, could allow Tchouameni to leave the Bernabeu, making him available for United.

United have been linked with Tchouameni for some time, especially with Casemiro set to leave in the summer. The club is expected to sign at least two midfielders to bolster their squad for next season.

Butt's Assessment of Tchouameni

Speaking to Paddy Power last month, Butt said: “I loved him at Monaco before he went to Real Madrid. I think he's a phenomenal footballer and exactly what United need in that sitting area. I don't see Real Madrid selling Tchouameni until they get somebody who can replace him - maybe Rodri if Pep leaves Man City - or if Florentino Perez wants to rip it up because they're not winning.”

He added: “He's a phenomenal player and that would be showing real intent of, we're not messing about, we're going to go for it. He's playing for one of the biggest football clubs in the world. It's a long shot and, for me, depends on if Pep was to leave.”

United's New Manager and Transfer Plans

The news coincides with United’s permanent appointment of Michael Carrick as head coach. The former midfielder has signed a two-year deal with an option for a third, and his presence will be central to summer transfer planning.

Meanwhile, Guardiola is expected to be replaced at City by Enzo Maresca, the former Leicester City and Chelsea boss, who knows Rodri from his time as assistant manager at the Etihad.

The potential transfer of Tchouameni would represent a significant statement of intent from United as they look to rebuild under Carrick’s leadership.
