Bezos' £208bn empire and mansions as Liverpool bid looms

Jeff Bezos is preparing to take a stake in Liverpool as part of a consortium that also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. An official announcement could arrive this week, according to Sky News.

The Amazon founder, who ranks fourth on the latest Forbes billionaires list with an estimated fortune of $280bn (just under £208bn), is reportedly part of a group led by Amit Bhatia, former QPR chairman and son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.

Property portfolio worth $500m

Bezos' property empire is estimated to be worth $500m (£370m), according to Realtor.com. His primary residence is on Indian Creek Island in Florida, an exclusive enclave with just 34 homes, three of which belong to Bezos, including a $90m property purchased in 2024. Other residents include NFL legend Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump.

Previously, Bezos lived in Seattle with his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott and still owns several properties there. He made a profit on a home in Hunts Point, buying for $37.5m in 2019 and selling for $63m four years later, per the Puget Sound Business Journal.

From Hawaii to Beverly Hills

Over the last decade, Bezos has acquired properties in Washington DC, New York City, and a ranch in West Texas. His $78m Hawaii property includes a 4,500-square-foot main house. However, the most valuable is a $165m Beverly Hills home, developed by movie mogul Jack Warner and previously owned by record executive David Geffen, which includes tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course.

Beyond real estate

Most of Bezos' wealth comes from his Amazon stake, despite selling shares worth $13.5bn in 2023. His private investment firm, Bezos Expeditions, manages other investments, including stakes in Uber and Airbnb, with assets of approximately $107.8bn, according to the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute. He also owns the Washington Post, acquired for $250m, and founded Blue Origin, a space technology company with "hundreds of millions in revenue as well as billions of dollars in orders" as of 2023.

Fellow consortium member Saverin is reportedly worth nearly $24bn. Sky News reports the bid values Liverpool at around $6bn, with the consortium potentially taking a stake of more than 30 per cent.
