Thomas Muller Questions Anthony Gordon's Decision to Snub Bayern Munich for Barcelona

Thomas Muller has publicly questioned Anthony Gordon's decision to join Barcelona instead of Bayern Munich, following the winger's £70 million move from Newcastle United. The German icon expressed surprise that Gordon chose the Catalan club over the Bundesliga champions, despite acknowledging the appeal of playing under Hansi Flick.

Speaking to Bild, Muller said: 'If Barcelona and Bayern come, what was the deciding factor for Gordon not coming to Munich? I know Hansi Flick very well, of course. It’s a lot of fun playing under him, both in terms of his leadership and his style of play. But I would go to FC Bayern.'

Gordon completed his transfer to Barcelona last week, signing a five-year contract. The 24-year-old revealed at his unveiling that it had been a childhood dream to play for the club, stating: 'I wanted to speak Spanish because as a kid I believed I would play for Barça, believe it or not. I was excited to play for Barça when I was three years of age.'

Bayern Munich had also expressed interest in signing Gordon but were unwilling to meet Newcastle's £70 million asking price, reportedly stopping at £60 million. This allowed Barcelona to secure the deal. Gordon added: 'I found out very late from Barça [of their interest], but as soon as I knew Barça was a serious option there was never any question. I always wanted Barça. Barça are the biggest club on the planet.'

Gordon has been named in England's squad for the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. He has made 17 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring twice, and enjoyed his most productive club season with 17 goals for Newcastle, though nine were penalties.
