Power has been restored to 270,000 consumers in Kyiv after a massive Russian overnight attack plunged the city into darkness, Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk announced on Friday. The attack, which targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, involved over 450 drones and 30 missiles, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy reported power outages across nine regions and reiterated the urgent need for international support with air defence systems and sanctions enforcement. The strikes also damaged 12 apartment buildings in Zaporizhzhia, killing a seven-year-old boy and injuring four others. In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed 12 injuries, with eight hospitalised.
Meanwhile, 23 Ukrainian children were rescued from Russian-occupied areas under the 'Bring Kids Back UA' programme, as announced by presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak. The operation aims to return children deported to Russia or held in occupied territories.
