Energy experts have identified the most expensive time of day to run household appliances, offering advice on how to cut costs. According to Gordon Wallis from Your NRG, the peak period between 4pm and 7pm sees the highest electricity demand, making it the priciest time to use appliances like washing machines.
To save money, households should avoid running appliances during this three-hour window. Instead, opt for off-peak times such as late evening, early morning, or during the day when demand is lower. This is particularly beneficial for those on time-of-use tariffs.
Summer presents additional savings opportunities. Wallis recommends ditching the tumble dryer and using outdoor drying to reduce electricity consumption. He also advises switching to cooler wash cycles and running fuller loads to improve efficiency.
“People often focus on switching suppliers to save money, but changing everyday habits inside the home can also make a real difference,” Wallis said. Simple adjustments to when and how appliances are used can help keep summer energy bills under control.
