The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that millions of households will receive a £150 discount on their energy bills this winter through the Warm Home Discount scheme. The one-off payment is applied directly to electricity bills between October and March, when heating usage typically increases.
The scheme opens on 16 October, with further updates expected then. Eligible households will receive a letter from October confirming the discount. The money is not paid directly but as a reduction on bills. Those with gas and electricity from the same supplier may get the discount on their gas bill instead, but must contact their supplier.
Households using pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meters can still qualify; suppliers will advise how the discount is applied, such as via a top-up voucher. Details for park home residents will be announced later. If you believe you qualify but do not receive a letter, information on reporting a missing discount will be available in the coming months.
