A dehumidifier endorsed by Martin Lewis as a cost-effective alternative to tumble dryers is set to hit Aldi shelves this Sunday, January 11. The appliance, part of the supermarket's 'winter warmer' SpecialBuy range, aims to help households combat condensation and mould while saving on energy bills.
The Money Saving Expert founder has previously recommended dehumidifiers as a 'savvy swap' for drying clothes indoors during winter, noting they cost just pennies per hour to run compared to 'energy-guzzling' tumble dryers. On his BBC podcast, he calculated that a 200W dehumidifier costs around 7p per hour to operate based on typical electricity prices.
Aldi's Midi Dehumidifier, priced at £89.99, can remove up to 12 litres of moisture per day and features a two-litre tank, adjustable humidity settings, a 24-hour timer, and a quiet mode. It also includes wheels for easy movement, a touch-screen display, and a drainage hose for continuous use.
The appliance arrives as Ofgem's energy price cap for January to March 2026 sets the average cost of electricity at 27.69p per kWh, making energy-efficient devices particularly appealing. Martin Lewis has not endorsed any specific brand, but Aldi's offering provides an affordable option for those looking to reduce dampness and drying costs.
