Aldi has announced plans to fit solar panels at an additional 62 stores across the UK in 2026, as part of the expansion of its solar programme. The supermarket said it builds on existing progress, with solar panels already installed at more than 470 stores in its UK estate.
In the latest phase, Aldi is investing £8.4 million to install solar panels at 100 stores throughout 2025 and 2026. Each installation can supply up to 30% of a store's annual energy needs, allowing Aldi to generate more electricity on-site and improve energy resilience.
The UK's fourth largest supermarket is targeting stores in Stratford-upon-Avon, Maghull, Northampton and Wrexham for solar panel installation in the coming months. Aldi previously unveiled plans to invest over £300 million in upgrading and extending its UK stores in 2026.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: 'We've made significant progress over the past year, and we are advancing the next phase of our solar rollout across even more stores in 2026. The programme has expanded to cover even more sites than originally planned and through ongoing investment in our estate we're making our operations more resilient while ensuring we continue to deliver great value for customers in a more sustainable way.'
