The South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership has launched a new recruitment campaign to fill home carer roles across the region. The partnership is seeking carers to support older and disabled residents in communities including Hamilton, East Kilbride, Clydesdale, and Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
Role and rewards
Home carers help people remain independent in their own homes by providing practical and personal support, enabling them to stay connected to their communities and maintain their quality of life. The vacancies offer hourly rates between £18.40 and £18.85, with training, career development opportunities, and support available for successful applicants.
Emma Tweed, who already works in the role, described it as “rewarding”. She said: “It’s the most rewarding job I’ve ever done. Even the smallest thing you do can be the biggest thing in someone’s life. You may work on your own, but you’re never alone. The support network is always there. To be successful in this role, you need to be a caring person who is compassionate and sympathetic and who shows patience and understanding towards others.”

Scott McNeill, service manager for Registered Care at Home Services, said the roles offered the chance to develop a long-term career while making a meaningful difference to people’s lives. He said: “Whether you’re looking to start a career in care or build on existing experience, this is a role where you can make a real difference while developing your skills and confidence. Professor Soumen Sengupta, chief officer for Health and Social Care in South Lanarkshire, said home carers played a crucial role in helping people remain in their own homes. He said: “I know from talking with people who benefit from our services just how important our home carers are in helping them remain independent, connected to their communities and able to live well at home. Home carers play a vital role in supporting people to stay in the place they most want to be: their own home. Applications close on August 16. Applicants must hold an SVQ Level 2 in Social Care, or an equivalent qualification, to meet Scottish Social Services Council registration requirements.
