Newcastle United midfielder Anthony Munda has joined League Two club Swindon Town on a season-long loan, describing the move as 'a good step' in his career. The 19-year-old, a former England youth international, has been a regular for the Magpies' Under-21s and featured in first-team friendlies against Darlington and Gateshead earlier this month.
Loan Move Seals Senior Experience
Munda had indicated in April, speaking to Chronicle Live, that he wanted to gain senior experience away from St James' Park after training with Newcastle's senior squad. He said at the time: “Playing with Champions League players, it’s a good experience. When I go there, it’s tough but I try and express myself and show what I can do.”
He added: “I feel like that’s the next step (a loan) I need to take. I’ve played quite a lot of Under-21s football and the step from Under-21s to first-team is quite a big jump but I feel like now I’m in a place where I am ready to do so. Hopefully, next season, we will see what comes.”
Buzzing to Join Swindon
After completing the move, Munda told Swindon's official website: “I’m buzzing to be here; obviously it’s a long way from home. I feel like the point where I am in my career now, I’m ready for it. I feel like it’s a really good club to be at; we play great football, so I feel like it’s a good step for me.”
He also spoke about his conversations with Swindon manager Ian Holloway: “I spoke to the manager, and he liked how athletic I am, how I can get round the pitch and my bit of quality on the ball, so I feel like the conversations I’ve had have been quite positive.”
Munda could make his competitive senior debut when Swindon host Cheltenham Town at the County Ground on Saturday afternoon.
