Liverpool save £710k weekly wages as 12 players exit, sign Munoz

Liverpool have officially bid farewell to 12 players as their contracts expired at midnight, marking a significant squad overhaul under manager Andoni Iraola. The departures include high-profile stars Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, alongside nine other players, mostly academy graduates.

Three major departures free up £710,000 weekly wages

The most notable exits are Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, who were all out of contract at the end of June. According to the club's retained and released list for the 2026/27 season, these three players alone accounted for a combined weekly wage of £710,000. Salah, who signed a new two-year deal in 2025, was reportedly earning £400,000 per week. Robertson was on £160,000 a week, while Konate took home £150,000 weekly. Their departures free up substantial funds for Iraola to pursue further signings this summer.

Robertson is set to join Tottenham Hotspur, while Konate has signed for Real Madrid. Salah's next destination remains unclear. The club thanked all departing players for their contributions in a statement on their official website: "Everybody at the club would like to thank the players for all their contributions and wish each of them the best for the future."

Academy graduates and Rhys Williams also leave

In addition to the star trio, nine other players have left Anfield: academy graduates Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Airoboma, James Balagizi, DJ Bernard, Oakley Cannonier, Josh Davidson, Terence Miles, and Jacob Poytress. Defender Rhys Williams, who featured prominently during the 2020/2021 injury crisis alongside Nat Phillips, has also departed.

Despite the exodus, Liverpool have confirmed that contract offers have been made to several young prospects: Prince Cisse, Keyrol Figueroa, Kyle Kelly, Afolami Onanuga, Oliver O’Connor, Lucas Pitt, Ben Trueman, and Matthew Wright.

New signing Victor Munoz arrives for £34.5 million

While the club missed out on Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande, who reportedly favours a move to European champions PSG, Liverpool have completed the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5 million. The fee was triggered by a release clause, allowing the deal to progress quickly. Paid over a six-year contract, the annual cost is £5.75 million, which the club considers manageable for a player with first-team potential.

Munoz, a full Spain international who made two senior appearances for Real Madrid earlier in his career, expressed his excitement about the move. "I've been focused on the World Cup, so I didn't want to hear much about my future unless it was something clear," Munoz said. "Liverpool is an opportunity you can't miss. It all took place very quickly. Iraola transmitted his confidence to me, how his team plays. He had an important role when it came to choosing."

The signing marks Liverpool's first major acquisition of the summer as Iraola reshapes his squad for the upcoming season.
