Jet2 has issued a travel reminder to all passengers, particularly those using soft-sided suitcases, advising them to check their luggage before traveling. The airline's website features a 'top tips before travel' section, emphasizing the importance of ensuring baggage is strong and suitable for the journey.
Soft-Sided Luggage Vulnerabilities
While many travelers opt for soft-sided suitcases, Jet2 warns that these can be more prone to damage. The airline states: "Please ensure your baggage is strong and fit for purpose, to protect the contents and to withstand the normal baggage handling process. Soft sided cases and handles, wheels and locks can be particularly vulnerable."
Labeling and Packing Advice
Regardless of suitcase type, passengers are urged to label all luggage carefully with name, flight number, and phone number. Jet2 also advises packing important documents, medications, and cash in hand luggage. "Never pack cash, valuable items, perishable goods, important documents or essential medications in your checked baggage," the guidance reads.
Additional Tips
- Add a name tag to your bags and ensure all zips are fully closed.
- Be aware that security authorities in some countries may open bags without you present.
- Keep destination tags and receipts until you collect all baggage at the destination.
- Do not carry unidentified items for other people.
- Check the name on the baggage tag when claiming luggage to avoid mix-ups.
Choosing the Right Luggage
For those in need of new luggage, high street retailers like Dunelm, Primark, Home Bargains, B&M, or TK Maxx offer both hard-sided and soft-sided options. Soft-sided bags provide flexibility, while hard-sided cases are better for fragile items.
