England WAG who backed Argentina exits Hashtag United

Kelci-Rose Bowers has left Hashtag United Women after just eight weeks at the club. The English WAG of Tottenham and Argentina defender Marcos Senesi agreed to a mutual termination of her contract, the club confirmed on Thursday.

World Cup Allegiance Draws Attention

Bowers, 22, made headlines at this summer's World Cup after wearing an Argentina shirt for the Three Lions semi-final clash in support of Senesi, who had received an Argentina call-up. The move drew criticism on social media.

Bowers began her youth career with Chelsea before playing college football in America. She joined Portsmouth Women in July 2023, then moved to Bournemouth on loan in 2024 before making the move permanent, helping the club win the FA Women's National League Division One South West title.

Move to London and Departure

It was on the South Coast that she met Senesi, who had become a Bournemouth player two years prior. The two began dating in 2024. Ahead of the tournament, Senesi's Bournemouth deal expired and he joined Tottenham, moving to London after the World Cup. Bowers followed him, completing a free transfer to Hashtag United.

Bowers made three appearances for Hashtag this season, playing 225 minutes, including the full 90 minutes against her former side, Bournemouth, which ended in a 4-1 defeat.

Club Statement and Next Steps

In a statement, Hashtag United confirmed the departure: "The club can confirm Kelci-Rose Bowers has left the club via mutual termination. We welcomed Kelci to the club this summer following her relocation from Bournemouth. But, unfortunately, the move has not worked out and the club have agreed to her transfer to another FAWNL club. We'd like to wish Kelci the best in this next chapter of her career."

It has not been made clear where Bowers will play next, though the mention of another FA Women's National League outfit suggests a move within that league. Given Senesi plays for Spurs, a London-area club is considered likely.

Speaking about how she met Senesi, Bowers told The Times: "We were both invited to model the club's retro kit launch at an old American-style diner on the beachfront. It was actually my first week after signing for the club, and I hadn't really met anyone yet. During the shoot, we had a few group photos together, as well as a couple of shots with just the two of us. Afterwards, we started chatting on Instagram. Looking back now, it's really special that we have those photos from the very first day we met."
