Millions of benefit claimants across the UK will receive their payments this Friday, August 28, instead of Monday, August 31, due to the Bank Holiday. The date change applies to all payments originally scheduled for August 31.
Which benefits are affected?
The majority of affected benefits are administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Child Benefit, which will also be paid on Friday instead of Monday, is the responsibility of HMRC.
The payment date change applies across the entire United Kingdom. Scotland follows the same principle despite different bank holiday arrangements.

Minister's statement and Child Benefit warning
Minister for Social Security and Disability Sir Stephen Timms said: "We’re pleased to confirm that benefit payments due on the August bank holiday will be paid earlier. This will help ensure families and older people receive their money without disruption over the bank holiday period."
HMRC recently issued a Child Benefit warning for all parents whose children have picked up their GCSE results. Families are being asked to take action by the end of this month or they could lose up to £1,406 a year.
According to the rules, Child Benefit can be claimed until a child turns 20 if they are in certain types of education or training. However, parents must tell HMRC about their child's education or training. Child Benefit automatically stops on August 31 on or after a child's 16th birthday if HMRC is not informed that they are staying in education or training.
