Cardiff City have appointed Joe Hamilton as their new head of analysis, with the Canadian joining Brian Barry-Murphy's backroom staff after more than five years working within Canada Soccer's setup.
Hamilton was spotted alongside Barry-Murphy on the Cardiff bench during Monday night's 1-1 draw with Wrexham at Cardiff City Stadium, as the Bluebirds opened their Championship campaign. He replaces Matthew Jenkins, who left Cardiff earlier this summer to join Premier League side Leeds United.
Five years with Canada Soccer
Hamilton spent more than five years with Canada Soccer, initially joining as a technical assistant in June 2021 before moving into a permanent performance analyst role two months later. He worked within the Canada setup during a significant period for the national team, which included its return to the World Cup at Qatar 2022.
He also spent the last three years as executive director of the Fredericton District Soccer Association in New Brunswick, while working part-time as an assistant coach with the University of New Brunswick men's team.
Backroom reshuffle at Cardiff
Hamilton's arrival comes as Cardiff continue to reshape their first-team staff following a number of departures since last season's promotion from League One. Jenkins' exit to Leeds was one of the most notable changes, with Barry-Murphy previously describing his former analyst as a major asset and revealing he had been "blown away" by his work.
Jenkins had spent eight years with Cardiff, progressing from the academy to become head first-team performance analyst. Cardiff have since promoted Oli Moulton into a first-team performance analyst position after he spent time working with the club's academy, replacing Nicolas Yeung, who departed after almost seven years with the Bluebirds.
Further staff changes
The club have also seen U21 boss Darren Purse leave for Sligo Rovers, while U18 head coach Tom Hutton departed to join Aaron Ramsey's coaching staff at Oxford United. Goalkeeping coach Gavin Ward has also left, with former Manchester City academy coach Imanol Etxeberria lined up as his replacement.
Cardiff have simultaneously strengthened their recruitment operation, with former Swansea recruitment figure Dominic Newton joining as senior technical scout. Hamilton's arrival also follows the departure of another member of Canada's coaching staff, with former CanMNT set-piece coach Nicolas Gagnon joining Bournemouth earlier this summer.
