Buckingham Palace is hiring a full-time kitchen porter with no prior experience required, according to the Royal Household website. The role offers a starting salary of £30,840 per year and the option to live on site in single-person accommodation.
Live-in role with salary deduction
Successful candidates for the live-in position would relocate to Royal premises. If the chosen applicant opts for on-site accommodation, a deduction of 16.7% - £5,150.28 - will be made from their salary to cover bills, the Royal Household confirmed. The position is advertised on a permanent basis, with the deadline for applications set for Monday, August 31.
Training provided for kitchen duties
While experience "in a similar role would be an advantage," it is not essential, as thorough on-site training will be provided. Responsibilities include working "hands-on to help support your colleagues to deliver food to the highest standards," maintaining the kitchen environment, cleaning equipment, surfaces, refrigeration units and utensils, and assisting with basic food preparation when needed.
The job listing adds: "Our team members work collaboratively, with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the kitchen. With training and support embedded in our team culture, you'll be encouraged to grow your skills. Although based at Buckingham Palace, you'll also work at different Royal residences throughout the year." Where travel to other Royal residences is necessary, split shifts may feature in the rota, with time spent travelling offset by time off in lieu.

Additional positions are open, including a sous chef and an assistant visitor services manager, though these roles do require relevant experience. The kitchen porter role involves working up to 45 hours per week across any five out of seven days, Monday to Sunday.
