Andy Murray has hilariously hit back at suggestions he took a £75,000 weekly wage for coaching Novak Djokovic. The tennis icon dismissed the claim as one of the 'top five lies' he has ever encountered, responding to an Instagram post with laughing emojis and a blunt rebuttal.
Murray's Short-Lived Coaching Stint with Djokovic
Murray made a sensational return to tennis at the beginning of 2025 to join Djokovic’s coaching staff, just months after retiring from the sport altogether. The partnership lasted only six months, with Murray leaving the post to spend more time with his family. Both spoke fondly of their time together, and Murray insisted his departure was amicable.
Rumours of £75k Weekly Wage Dismissed
Recent stories claimed Murray was on a blockbuster £75,000-a-week wage, something the Scot has completely rubbished. Replying to an Instagram post suggesting that, Murray said: “I've read a few lies over the years but this is for sure top 5.”
Potential Coaching Return with Jack Draper
There has been chatter about Murray returning to the coaching sphere, with suggestions that he should lend his expertise to Jack Draper. Murray told the BBC: “After I stopped working with Novak, I had a number of opportunities to coach again. I had no interest in being on the road and away from my family. It wasn't that I disliked coaching - I just didn't enjoy it more than I do being at home with my family. When Jack asked me, I thought about it, spoke to my wife and told Jack that I'd love to help him.”
He added: “I think Jack's a brilliant player. There is no doubt that when he gets back on the court he will perform well and win matches at the highest level. But right now the focus is on trying to get him back competing consistently again.”
Djokovic's Wimbledon Preparations
As for Djokovic, all eyes are on Wimbledon as he chases his 25th Grand Slam title. Having been out of action since the French Open, Djokovic will ramp up his preparations by featuring alongside Jannik Sinner at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at Hurlingham.
Tournament Director Nikhil Waugh said: “We are delighted to welcome such an exceptional field of players to The Hurlingham Club this year. Novak’s return to the exhibition, alongside Jannik Sinner’s debut appearance, promises a fantastic week of world-class tennis. With some of the sport’s biggest names competing on our iconic grass courts ahead of Wimbledon, we look forward to delivering a truly memorable experience for players and spectators alike.”
