Sarah J Maas, the bestselling author of the 'romantasy' genre, has announced two new books in her popular A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series, with pre-orders already open. The author revealed the news on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, confirming that book six will be released on 27 October 2026, followed by book seven on 12 January 2027. A third book, book eight, is also in the works but has no release date yet.
Maas explained that book six grew so long during writing that she split it into four parts. Part one will be book six, parts two and three will form book seven, and part four will be book eight. She described the story as 'one massive story' rather than a trilogy. The author also teased that fans will finally learn the truth about Mor's powers and hinted at a potential redemption arc for Tamlin, though she emphasised this would be handled respectfully.
In addition to the book announcements, Maas confirmed she has reclaimed the rights to the ACOTAR TV adaptation after the Hulu project fell through. She stated, 'I want to be in charge... I want to see it adapted the way I envisioned it.' Finding the right actor for the character Rhys has been challenging, with Maas saying she has yet to find her 'perfect Rhys' and wants the casting to happen organically.
The ACOTAR series, which began with A Court of Thorns and Roses in 2015, has become a global phenomenon, dominating bestseller lists and social media platforms like TikTok. The latest book in the series, A Court of Silver Flames, was published in 2021. Fans are now eagerly awaiting further details on the covers and titles of the upcoming books, which are expected in the coming weeks.
