The first official #BookTok bestseller list has been released, revealing a top 20 dominated entirely by female authors. The list, part of a collaboration for the National Year of Reading, highlights the platform's growing influence on the publishing industry.
Topping the chart is Rachel Reid's 'Heated Rivalry', boosted by a recent TV adaptation. Irish author Chloe Walsh is a standout, with all six books from her 'Boys of Tommen' series making the list. The 'romantasy' genre is also well represented, with multiple entries from Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros.
The list demonstrates TikTok's power to revive older titles, with Donna Tartt's 1992 novel 'The Secret History' appearing alongside modern staples like Colleen Hoover's 'Verity'. The #BookTok community has become an economic force, driving over 11 million book sales and generating approximately £86 million for the UK publishing industry in the past year.
The inaugural top 20 will be updated monthly, reflecting the dynamic nature of the platform's reading trends.
