Matt Smith and Sister Laura Jayne Stun at BAFTA TV Awards 2026
Matt Smith and Sister Laura Jayne Stun at BAFTA TV Awards

Matt Smith was once again supported on the red carpet by his devoted sister Laura Jayne at the BAFTA TV Awards, held at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday. The Doctor Who actor, 43, who is nominated for Leading Actor for his role in The Death Of Bunny Munro, looked suave in a classic black suit. He layered a double-breasted blazer over a striking polkadot shirt, completing the look with a black tie and leather boots.

Sisterly Support

Meanwhile, Laura Jayne caught the eye in a pink bejewelled gown that hugged every inch of her jaw-dropping figure. The dress also boasted ostentatious ostrich feather embellishments, and she styled her long dark locks into loose waves. No stranger to supporting her sibling at big events, Laura Jayne previously joined Matt at premieres of his movies and TV shows dating back to 2012.

Leading Actor Category

Nominations were announced in March, with Stephen Graham leading the way with a total of 11 nominations for his drama Adolescence and seven for his Disney+ series A Thousand Blows, for which he is an executive producer. Adolescence, created by actor Stephen, 52, and writer Jack Thorne, tells the story of British teenager Jamie Miller, who is found guilty of murdering a female classmate after being sucked in by the manosphere online. Each episode is filmed in one continuous shot and has been widely praised for addressing topics such as online radicalisation and misogyny. It is up for Limited Drama and Leading Actor, including the Craft Awards. Stars Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and Christine Tremarco are also all up for awards. Stephen will compete against Lockerbie's Colin Firth, The Death of Bunny Munro's Matt Smith, and Smoke's Taron Egerton in the Leading Actor category.

Supporting Categories

Ashley, 43, will face his co-star Owen, 16, in the Supporting Actor category, alongside Mobland's Paddy Considine, The Death of Bunny Munro's Rafael Mathe, The Gold's Joshua McGuire, and Down Cemetery Road's Fehinti Balogun. While co-stars Erin and Christine will go up against each other and The White Lotus's Aimee Lou Wood, Get Millie Black's Chyna McQueen, Task's Emilia Jones, and Reunion's Rose Ayling-Ellis for Best Supporting Actress. Erin and Aimee will face off for a second time on the night in the Leading Actress category, this time for their roles in A Thousand Blows and Film Club, respectively. The category is rounded out by Blue Lights' Siân Brooke, Prisoner 951's Narges Rashidi, Sheridan Smith for I Fought the Law as Ann Ming, and Jodie Whittaker in Toxic Town.

BBC Leads Nominations

While Netflix has a total of 29 nominations, it is the BBC that has the highest number, with 73 in total—five of which are for The Celebrity Traitors. The show became the highest-rated show on British TV last year, with host Claudia Winkleman up for a chance at taking home a gong in the best Entertainment Programme section. Prime Video's Last One Laughing will compete against the all-stars version of The Traitors, with show star Bob Mortimer up for best Entertainment Performance. Before the ceremony, Fleur East and Roman Kemp presented live on the red carpet on BAFTA's YouTube. The Celebrity Traitors' star Cat Burns performed How To Be Human, while for the In Memoriam, Norwegian singer-songwriter AURORA performed Through the Eyes of a Child from the BAFTA-nominated Netflix series Adolescence.

Special Awards

The BAFTA Fellowship was presented to Dame Mary Berry DBE, and Martin Lewis CBE received the BAFTA Television Special Award. Dame Mary Berry DBE said of the honour: 'I couldn’t believe it was true, what a huge honour to be presented with the BAFTA Fellowship. For over 50 years, I have enjoyed every moment of teaching my passion on television and I thank all the generous professionals along the way who have given me guidance and support—and I am still learning. This amazing BAFTA Fellowship is the icing on the cake!'
