Manchester United have agreed a £35 million fee with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who will travel to England later this month to complete his move. The 26-year-old has signed a contract worth £75,000 per week that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2030, becoming the club's first summer signing under manager Michael Carrick.
Ederson's Arrival and Pre-Season Plans
Ederson is currently on his summer break after the Serie A season concluded but is expected to arrive in Manchester in the coming weeks to finalise the transfer. He will then join the United squad for pre-season training ahead of a series of friendlies in Scandinavia. Carrick has emphasised that Ederson will be an integral part of those matches as he integrates into the team.
Carrick's Midfield Overhaul
Carrick has sanctioned the signing due to Ederson's versatility and work rate, and the deal was expedited because Ederson was not included in Brazil's World Cup squad. The manager has been desperate to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Casemiro, with Manuel Ugarte also set to leave if a £25 million asking price is met. United have abandoned their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, who is expected to join Manchester City, but other targets remain on the radar, including Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, and Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde.
Real Madrid Uncertainty
Tchouameni has played down a recent bust-up with Valverde and insists he remains committed to Real Madrid. However, with returning manager Jose Mourinho yet to decide which players to offload at the Bernabeu, United are left in limbo regarding those potential moves. For now, Ederson's signing represents a significant step in Carrick's midfield revamp.
