Arsenal winger Noni Madueke has insisted that the Premier League title triumph will be irrelevant when the Gunners face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday. The England international helped Arsenal secure their first league crown in 22 years, but he is fully focused on winning the European Cup for the first time in the club's history.
Madueke, who celebrated the Premier League win by acting as DJ at a Mayfair nightspot, said the Champions League would be 'the cherry on top' of an incredible season. 'Given what we witnessed here at the training ground the other night? Man, that would be amazing,' he said. 'Champions League is so big, you know. Premier League is massive. But the Champions League is so big to be able to do that for the first time in the history of the club.'
Arsenal have a parade booked for next Sunday to show off the Premier League trophy, but Madueke believes adding the Champions League would make it unforgettable. The Gunners lost to Barcelona in the 2006 final and were beaten by PSG in last year's semi-finals.
Madueke dismissed the notion that winning the title has eased pressure ahead of the final. 'No. It's separate,' he said. 'The pressure of the Champions League is there, but pressure is with us all the time... I think the Premier League will be irrelevant on that night. It will be full focus on the Champions League.'
The 24-year-old, who joined from Chelsea for £52 million, has won over Arsenal fans after a difficult start. He recalled seeing manager Mikel Arteta dancing during the title celebrations, saying: 'It was good to see the fun side of the manager... He's very intense. But I knew from the first conversation what he was like.'
