Kylie Jenner has come under fire after jetting to New York for just 24 hours to see her boyfriend, Timothée Chalamet, for what she described as a 'spontaneous' date night. The 28-year-old reality star, known for her role on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, shared a backdated video on TikTok showing her doing her makeup aboard her private plane, revealing she was preparing for a date night with her partner of three years.
Video Sparks Environmental Concerns
In the video, Jenner, who owns the $70 million 'Kylie Air' private jet, stated, 'This trip was very last minute, I'm literally going for like 24 hours.' This admission quickly alarmed eco-conscious followers. While some fans were excited to see the couple, who typically keep their relationship private, others expressed frustration. One user commented, 'Another day where a billionaire makes choices only caring about themselves not the environment or other people living on the same planet.'
Backlash on Social Media
Jenner's comments section was soon flooded with critics. Users wrote: 'Does anyone else feel like this is too much? Taking a private plane to visit a city for less than 24 hours to go on a date?' Another added, 'I thought we cared about the climate, but yet everyone is cheering in the comments... So out of touch.' Others pointed out the disparity, saying, 'This 24 hour trip to NYC cost as much as 5 years of income for me.' The carbon footprint of the journey was also heavily criticized.
Details of the Trip
In the video, Jenner began by saying, 'Get ready with me for date night!' She then revealed she had received a spray tan but was unhappy with the shade, so she got a second one and would need to wash it off after finishing her makeup. She also showed fans that she was experiencing turbulence, which interrupted her routine: 'Oh no there's turbulence now! I have to sit and I'm not finished!' Jenner did not specify when the video was taken, noting it was from her 'drafts.' However, she has recently been in New York for the Met Gala and watching the Knicks with Chalamet.
Previous Environmental Criticisms
This is not the first time Jenner has faced backlash for her private jet usage. In 2022, she was slammed for taking a 12-minute flight on her private jet for a 26-mile journey that would have taken just 39 minutes by car. She was branded a 'climate criminal' for that short haul journey across California. On July 13, 2022, she flew her Bombardier Global 7500 jet from Palm Springs to Van Nuys in 35 minutes, then from Van Nuys to Camarillo in just 12 minutes. Two days later, she repeated similar short flights. Experts estimated the fuel cost for that trip at around $1,600, or $7,200 if the jet was hired.
The latest incident has reignited debates about the environmental impact of private jet travel among the wealthy.
