Finland's Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen, one of the favourites to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, have opened up about the 'deep and sad' meaning behind their original song 'Liekinheitin', which translates to 'flamethrower'.
The Duo's Background
Lampenius is a world-renowned classical violinist who has been performing with orchestras since the age of eight. She is also the subject of an award-winning documentary series and has penned her autobiography, My Untamed Life. Parkkonen rose to fame through Finland's Idols TV series, where he placed third in 2008. He has released several solo albums, embarked on headline tours, and won Dancing with the Stars Finland in 2014 with his professional dance partner Katri Mäkinen.
The Song 'Liekinheitin'
The song blends rock and pop elements with dance and techno. Parkkonen sings in a ballad style on the verses before building to stormy instrumental sections. Lampenius's swooning strings are expected to captivate both the public and judges, reminiscent of Alexander Rybak's 2009 winner 'Fairytale'.
Inspiration and Meaning
According to the duo, the story behind the song is 'quite deep and sad'. It explores the dynamic when someone lets another fall in love with them but turns ice cold when they get too close. The protagonist can be seen as either a victim or someone addicted to others, knowing the relationship will never evolve. The song symbolises the passion between two people, but also the desperation that could destroy them.

Interestingly, Lampenius and Parkkonen did not know each other before the project. Lampenius expressed her dream collaboration with Parkkonen to the producer, who happened to know him. Within 24 hours, they were in the studio. Representing Finland is a great honour, and winning Eurovision is something they have yet to fully comprehend.
