Family Raises Funds for Blindness-Threatened Girl to Meet Elsa

A family from Godalming, Surrey, is urgently raising funds to take their four-year-old daughter to Disneyland Paris so she can meet Elsa from Frozen before she loses her eyesight. Brooke Birch was diagnosed with a low-grade glioma brain tumour in November 2025 after doctors discovered a shadow behind her left eye and two shadows on her brain.

From Lazy Eye to Life-Changing Diagnosis

Parents Dave and Zoe Birch first noticed Brooke's 'lazy eye' in February 2024. Initially, they were told her left eye was developing at a slower rate. However, a second test in February 2025 revealed further deterioration, leading to glasses and an eye patch. When her sight did not improve, an emergency MRI uncovered the tumour.

Brooke is now five months into a 70-week chemotherapy plan and has blood tests every week at home. While an MRI in March showed the tumour had not changed, doctors delivered devastating news: Brooke will eventually lose all vision in her left eye.

Making Memories Before It's Too Late

Dave, a scaffolder, said: 'We've just about got enough money for the bills we need to pay but we've got no money to make memories with the children. We'd love to take Brooke to Disneyland Paris for a few days. She loves Disney and she loves Rapunzel and Frozen.'

Brooke's tumour is attached to a nerve behind her left eye, making it inoperable. The only hope is that treatment stops its growth. Zoe, her mother, said: 'We got really bad news about her eyesight. She can't be certain things like a pilot as her eye has badly deteriorated. I wish it was me and I wish I had it and I could take it away from her.'

Fundraising for a Dream

With Zoe out of work caring for Brooke and Dave reducing his hours, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund the trip. They hope to take Brooke between treatments to create precious memories. Dave added: 'Brooke would be most excited to meet Elsa from Frozen at Disney. She loves her but also loves being a princess like any little girl.'

The family is appealing for donations to make their daughter's dream come true before her sight fades.
