Lisa Fryett, from Canvey Island in Essex, has died in a Spanish hospital after a catastrophic wildfire swept through the area where she and her partner were staying. The news was confirmed on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family.
Couple caught in blaze near Bédar
Simon Batchelor and Lisa Fryett were holidaying near the villages of Bédar and Los Gallardos when the inferno erupted. The pair were rescued from the mountainside the day after the fire broke out and were taken to a medical facility in Spain in a critical condition.
Lisa passed away on July 28, with relatives at her bedside. Simon remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Family's tribute and fundraiser
A message on the fundraising platform said: "Our hearts are completely broken, and there are simply no words to describe the pain we are feeling. Lisa fought so incredibly hard, and we are so grateful that her loved ones were able to be by her side, surrounding her with love until the very end."
Over £65,000 has been raised so far. The funds will go towards giving Lisa "the beautiful send off she truly deserves". The family said the support allowed them to stay together in Spain and be with Lisa when she needed them most.
The update continued: "Please continue to keep Simon in your thoughts and prayers as he remains in critical condition. Our family is holding onto hope and taking each day as it comes."

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities."
