Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that a rematch clause exists in the contract following the brutal heavyweight clash between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley in Manchester. Dubois reclaimed the WBO heavyweight title by stopping Wardley in the 11th round, despite being knocked down twice early in the fight.
Fight Recap
Wardley started strongly, dropping Dubois after just 10 seconds and again in the third round. However, Dubois found his rhythm with his jab and began to impose himself from the fourth round onward. By the ninth round, Wardley's right eye was swollen shut as he absorbed heavy punishment. Dubois finally closed the show in the 11th round to win back the world title.
Rematch Clause
Speaking to DAZN, Warren said: "These two guys showed such heart and chins. It was an amazing fight that had everything. There's a rematch clause in the contract. Let's let the dust settle in the heavyweight division then we'll see about what comes next. He's back and Fabio is not going away either. He's a true gutsy man."
Dubois Reacts
After the fight, Dubois said: "It was a war. Thank you Fabio for that. I know I've got heart. I'm a warrior in there. I had to pull it out of the bag, what a great fight and a battle. He's a durable guy, he's a great warrior. It was an honour to be in the ring with him."
Wardley was making the first defence of the belt he inherited after Oleksandr Usyk vacated it. Dubois was fighting for the first time since his second defeat to Usyk last summer. The bout has been hailed as one of the best heavyweight fights in recent memory.
