Gloucester Tops Which? Poll of Best UK Motorway Service Stations

Gloucester services on the M5 has been named the best motorway service station in Great Britain, according to a Which? survey. The consumer group ranked nearly 100 stops, with Gloucester scoring 85% overall and five-star ratings for shops, food and drink, facilities, cleanliness, convenience, accessibility, and outside space.

Tebay in Cumbria came second, followed by Rugby (Moto), Cairn Lodge in Lanarkshire, and Leeds Skelton Lake (Extra) completing the top five. Gloucester, Tebay, and Cairn Lodge are all owned by Westmorland Family.

At the bottom of the table was Bridgwater in Somerset, also owned by Moto, with a customer score of 23% and one-star ratings across all categories. Leeming Bar in North Yorkshire was second-worst with 26% and one-star ratings. Moto owned nine of the bottom ten stations.

The survey was based on over 4,000 Which? members reporting on 9,000 visits. Moto's chief executive Ken McMeikan noted that a separate Transport Focus study gave Moto a 94% satisfaction score, and said the company is investing heavily in improvements.
