David Beckham earned a reported £19 million from his various brand endorsements at the World Cup, far exceeding the combined £11 million reportedly received by England's squad and staff for their participation.
Beckham's World Cup earnings
The World Cup has concluded, with Spain crowned champions and England reaching the semi-finals. Beckham, a former England captain, attended several matches in North America alongside his wife Victoria. He also fronted advertising campaigns for brands including Lay's crisps, Bank of America, Stella Artois and McDonald's.
According to The Sun, Beckham pocketed £19 million from these deals, adding to his estimated net worth of £1.1 billion when combined with his wife's wealth.
England squad bonuses
FIFA awards £20 million to national associations for reaching the semi-finals. England earned an additional £2 million by winning the third-place playoff against France 6-4, bringing the total to £22 million. The Football Association allocates about half of this, £11 million, to the performance bonus pool for the squad and coaching staff.
When divided, England's players are likely to earn between £350,000 and £420,000 each. Manager Thomas Tuchel will receive a separate payout for reaching the semi-finals. Players' £2,000 match fees are donated to charity under an agreement from 2007, and bonuses may also be donated, as happened after Euro 2020 when the bonus went to NHS charities.
Despite tax deductions, no England player or staff member earned as much as Beckham from the tournament.
