Aaron Rai of England clinched the PGA Championship on Sunday at Aronimink Golf Club, securing the Wanamaker Trophy for the first time by an Englishman in over a century. The 31-year-old golfer earned approximately £2.7 million from the tournament's £15 million prize pool, with his caddie, Jason Timmis, poised for a substantial bonus.
Historic Victory
Rai delivered a stunning final round, highlighted by a remarkable 69-foot putt on the 17th green, to finish at nine under par and claim his maiden major title. Prior to this, he had never recorded a top-10 finish in a major championship. His composure under pressure was key to his success.
Caddie's Windfall
Caddies typically earn around 10% of a player's prize money, though arrangements can vary. For Timmis, who has been Rai's caddie since 2019, this victory could mean a payday of £270,000 — the largest of Rai's PGA Tour career, which totals approximately £12 million. Rai's previous win was at the 2024 Wyndham Championship, earning just over £1 million.
Following the win, Rai embraced his wife, Gaurika Bishnoi, and credited his family for his success. He highlighted the hard work and dedication instilled by his parents and siblings, noting his mother's multiple jobs and his sister's early employment. "There was a lot of consistent messaging of hard work," Rai said, emphasizing the supportive environment at home and on the golf course.
