Yellowstone star Wes Bentley has landed a major role in an upcoming crime drama from the creator of American Horror Story. The actor, known for playing Jamie Dutton in the hit Western series, is set to appear in The Shards, a new project from Ryan Murphy.
Ryan Murphy's New Crime Drama
Ryan Murphy, the mastermind behind American Horror Story, Netflix's Monster, and Scream Queens, is back with another gripping project. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis, The Shards promises to deliver viewers "a summer of suspense, seduction and obsession."
Plot and Setting
The crime drama unfolds against the glittering yet sinister backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles. It centers on a group of privileged sixth-form students attending an elite preparatory school. They must navigate identity, sex, jealousy, and obsession while also contending with a serial killer known as The Trawler, who preys on teenagers throughout the city.
Cast and Characters
At the heart of The Shards is actor Igby Rigney, who portrays aspiring writer and "keenly observant teenager" Bret. Rigney is known for roles in The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. His character's reality begins to unravel upon the arrival of enigmatic new student Robert Mallory, played by Euphoria star and Richard Gere's son, Homer Gere.
Wes Bentley takes on the role of Terry Schaffer, joining a stellar cast that includes Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer and Steven Reindhardt as Jordan Roth. Wood is best known for playing Dolores Abernathy in Westworld, while Bentley is recognized for his role as Jamie Dutton across all five seasons of Yellowstone.
Joining Bret within his exclusive social circle are Susan Reynolds, portrayed by supermodel Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber; Debbie Schaffer, played by singer Hayes Warner; and Thom Wright, brought to life by newcomer Graham Campbell.
Release Details
The Shards is set to premiere on Disney Plus on Thursday, August 6. It remains unclear whether all 10 episodes will drop simultaneously or be released weekly. The series has been co-created by Ryan Murphy and author Bret Easton Ellis, who also wrote American Psycho.
