Time Out has named Traeth Llanddwyn, also known as Newborough Beach, on the Welsh island of Anglesey as the UK's most beautiful beach, surpassing popular destinations in Cornwall and Devon. The beach, located on the south-western tip of Anglesey, offers cream-coloured sand, dunes dotted with wildflowers, and a backdrop of Eryri National Park's mountain silhouettes.
What Makes Traeth Llanddwyn Special
The beach spans 2.5 miles, ensuring it never feels overcrowded. It is backed by a lush forest and features the striking whitewashed lighthouse Tŵr Mawr on the tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn. Visitors can reach the lighthouse via a two-mile coastal walk, taking 30 to 40 minutes each way.
Visitor Reviews
One TripAdvisor reviewer said: 'Gorgeous beach! Where the forest meets the sand, never seen anything like it before. Quite long and spacious, so not crammed full of people.' Another added: 'Wow. One of the best beaches we have been to ever. Spectacular views, space and adjoining forest area for walking too.'
Activities and Access
The beach's calm waters are ideal for paddleboarding, with equipment hire available from Hiareth Hire for £45 per day. Parking is available, but a car is essential as public transport does not reach the beach. The journey involves crossing the Menai Suspension Bridge, built in the 19th century.
