Science fiction enthusiasts may have discovered their ideal Netflix marathon for the weekend, reports the Mirror. The streaming platform currently hosts series one and two of the American comedy series Resident Alien, with the third instalment anticipated shortly.
What is Resident Alien About?
The programme centres on an extraterrestrial who crash-lands in Patience, a small Colorado town. The alien (portrayed by Alan Tudyk), dispatched to eradicate humanity, murders a vacationing doctor and assumes his identity as 'Harry Vanderspeigle'. The extraterrestrial subsequently becomes the town's physician and forms a bond with the mayor's young son, who uniquely perceives his authentic alien appearance. Despite having no medical knowledge, the alien masters doctoring by watching the television programme Law and Order.
Gradually, the alien grapples with the ethical dilemma of his mission as he develops connections with Patience's residents. Eventually, the alien chooses to safeguard humanity from fresh extraterrestrial dangers rather than annihilating the entire species.
Cast and Reception
Resident Alien spanned four series, with cable network Syfy announcing in 2025 that the fourth would be the concluding run. Alongside Tudyk, the show featured Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Judah Prehn, Elizabeth Bowen, and Meredith Garretson.
Numerous viewers have previously praised Resident Alien on IMDb. One 10/10 review titled: 'The best TV show in years' expanded: 'I love this show. It's fresh, original and hilarious. The acting is top notch, especially Alan Tudyk, and his interactions with the little boy, the only human who knows he's an alien, are the absolute best.'
