Fans of Bonnie Tyler will gather at Oystermouth Castle in Swansea later this month for a tribute event dedicated to the late Welsh singer. The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" star, born Gaynor Hopkins, died in a Portuguese hospital on July 8 at the age of 75.
Tribute event details
The singer's official Facebook page announced that the event, titled "Simply the Best – A Tribute to Bonnie Tyler", will take place on Sunday, August 16. It will feature local musicians, singers and songwriters performing Bonnie Tyler's hits in a heartfelt tribute to the iconic Welsh artist.
The free event, run by Retro.Wales, will begin at 12pm, with tribute performances running from 2pm to 4pm as part of Mumbles Retro Weekend. Food and drink will also be available to purchase at the castle.
The post said: "Join us as we celebrate the music and legacy of one of Wales' greatest voices." It added: "Everyone is welcome to come along, share the memories, sing along and enjoy an afternoon of fantastic live music in the beautiful grounds of Oystermouth Castle."
More Mumbles Retro Weekend events
In the days before the tribute, Mumbles Retro Week will also feature Fleetwood Mac and Oasis tribute acts, a Kids Fest and a Boogie Days disco, among other attractions.
Family funeral arrangements
In a notice published in the South Wales Evening Post last month, Tyler's family confirmed that a celebration of her life will take place in Swansea in August. She is currently resting at William Pressdee Funeralcare in Mumbles before returning to her home, Fernhill, on Saturday, August 15 at 3.30pm. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm.
The notice adds: "A celebration of Gaynor's life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) on Monday, August 17 at 12 noon." The singer will then return to her hometown of Skewen at around 1.20pm en route to a private family service.
Her family has requested that anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory consider giving to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales or Cerebral Palsy Cymru, two charities of which Tyler was a patron.
