Southport's Market Quarter Festival is set to return on Saturday, July 18, as the seaside town prepares to welcome 300,000 global visitors for The 154th Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club. The free event, running from 10am to 8pm, will feature live music, family entertainment, community activities, and independent traders across indoor and outdoor stages.
Festival Highlights and Activities
The festival aims to showcase Southport's independent business community while providing a day out for residents and visitors. Music will be performed throughout the afternoon and evening on the outdoor Main Stage on Market Street and the indoor Acoustic Stage inside Southport Market. Acts include Cara Ceol, Fishheads, The Yee Haws, and Adam Parry.
Families can enjoy the Big Family Disco at 12pm and 3pm in the Extravaganza Room, featuring live DJs, party games, giveaways, and a bouncy castle. Free family entertainment includes Mr Tumble & Friends from 10am to 12pm on the outdoor stage.
Market Quarter as a Key Destination
Jordan Khokhar, Senior General Manager at Southport Market, said: "The Market Quarter Festival is all about bringing people together and showcasing everything that makes Southport special. We have an incredible line-up of live music, family entertainment and local businesses taking part throughout the day."
Khokhar added: "Southport Market is a key destination within the town centre, and we're looking forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to enjoy great food, fantastic live performances and a real community atmosphere."
Event Timing and The Open Context
While Southport Market is open daily during The Open, the Market Quarter Festival is a one-day event on Saturday, July 18. The festival is part of a wider programme of activities in Southport during the championship, which will see 300,000 global visitors arrive to watch golf at Royal Birkdale.
