Coronation Street stars Wendi Peters and Charlotte Jordan are among the cast of a new BBC detective series set in the 1970s. The Hairdresser Mysteries, created by Jim Cartwright, has released a first look at the nostalgic crime drama and announced its star-studded ensemble.

Plot Overview

The six-part series follows Lily Petal, played by Sally Phillips, a high-end hairdresser who leaves the competitive city scene to buy a small village hairdressers at the top of a cobbled street. The synopsis states: 'Everyone tells their hairdresser everything and soon she becomes the hub of her new village's secrets and revelations. Using her own brand of uncannily developed hairdressing intuitive, empathy and understanding, Lily begins to solve the mysteries of the village.'

Coronation Street Stars in New Roles

Wendi Peters, 58, known for playing Cilla Battersby-Brown on Coronation Street from 2003 to 2007 and again in 2014, portrays Gloria Crudd. Gloria is another newcomer to the village seeking a fresh start with her ice cream parlour, but her past quickly catches up with her. In the first look images, Peters appears transformed from her Corrie character, sporting a pastel pink copper-toned curly beehive hairstyle adorned with jewelry accessories.

Charlotte Jordan, 32, who played Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street from 2020 to 2025 and featured in major storylines including an acid attack plot, takes on the role of Clary Coombs. Clary is described as Lily's 'bright and analytical assistant and the Watson to her Shear-lock Holmes.'

Alongside the Coronation Street favourites, the cast includes:

  • Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones's Diary) as lead hairdresser Lily Petal
  • Ben Castle-Gibb (You) as PC Adam Watson, a young officer smitten with Clary
  • Sunetra Sarker (Ackley Bridge) as Wincey Evans, the village gossip
  • Clive Rowe as Lonnie, manager of the local charity shop
  • Guy Henry (Holby City) as Race Runard, a quirky antiques dealer

The Hairdresser Mysteries will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this July.
