Steve Hughes, director of the Casualty 40th anniversary episodes, has described them as the "most ambitious" he has ever had the privilege to direct. The BBC One medical drama will celebrate four decades with a double-bill airing on Saturday, September 5, on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

A dramatic first-look trailer for the milestone event has been released, showing an explosion, a police officer approaching Dylan Keogh outside the hospital, and what appears to be an ambulance underwater. Rida Amaan is also seen in a horrifying situation. The high-stakes major incident plunges Holby into chaos, with lives hanging in the balance and the ED team pushed to their limits.

Dylan Keogh (William Beck) battles personal tragedy while leading his team. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) fight for survival. The anniversary episodes also feature Melanie Hill, Barney Walsh, Neet Mohan, Charles Venn, Sammy Dobson, Kirsty Mitchell, Di Botcher, Anna Chell, Sarah Seggari, Michael Stevenson, Milo Clarke, Naomi Wakszlak, and Aron Julus.
