Fans of the discontinued Calippo Shots are urging for their return, claiming the frozen dessert would have "absolutely served this summer." The treat, which featured balls of lemon and strawberry ice in a green shaker-style container, was discontinued in 2020.
Nostalgic fans take to social media
With the UK experiencing record-breaking temperatures this summer, several fans have expressed their longing for the dessert on social media. One Reddit user, @derrygirls12349, wrote: "Feel like pure **** just want her back. Please can we start an uprising?" Another, @Ornery-Sample-3208, added: "These would have absolutely served this summer."
A third fan, @xlittlexwitchx, commented: "God I loved these. I don’t miss the panic of getting my tongue stuck but god I loved them." Others echoed similar sentiments, with @No-Sandwich1511 writing: "One day they will come back, I refuse to give up hope," and @Yourstarlesseyes simply saying: "If only."
Some fans unaware of the treat
While many remember the popular summer favourite, some had forgotten about it entirely. Reddit user @CaptainC00lpants commented: "Forgot these even existed!" Another, @tinkertink2010, said: "I think I must be the only person who has never tried them!"
Previous petition rejected
This is not the first time fans have campaigned for the return of Calippo Shots. In 2022, a petition was set up demanding the UK government to 'bring back Calippo Shots'. The petition read: "The ice cream balls called calippo shots were discontinued and this has brought great sadness to me and many others. Please Lizz Truss before you are booted out of parliament, do one good thing for our country… BRING THEM BACK!"
The petition was rejected on October 18, 2022, as the matter is not something the UK government or Parliament is directly responsible for. The rejection message explained: "Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about what products to produce are a matter for individual food manufacturers, not the Government or Parliament. As a result it is not possible for the Government or Parliament to take the action you have requested."
