5 Rivals Filming Locations You Can Visit in the UK

The Disney+ series Rivals, based on Dame Jilly Cooper's Rutshire Chronicles, has captivated audiences with its raunchy drama and glamorous settings. Much of the show is filmed in the South West of England, particularly in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Bristol. If the show has inspired a romantic countryside getaway, here are five must-visit destinations.

Tetbury: The Real Cotchester

Tetbury in the Cotswolds doubles as the fictional village of Cotchester, where most of Rivals takes place. Key filming sites include St Mary's Church, transformed into St Agnes and St Isaac's, and Berkeley House, the Grade II-listed home of American producer Cameron Cook. During filming, Tetbury was decorated with 1980s decor and Cotchester signage. Today, visitors can explore antique dealers and gastropubs. In May, the town hosts the unique Woolsack Races, where competitors race up a steep hill carrying a full sack of wool.

Chavenage House: The Priory

Chavenage House, just outside Tetbury, served as The Priory in seasons one and two, home to Aidan Turner's character Declan O'Hara. This Grade I-listed 16th-century house is a key location, especially in season one for the Venturer launch planning. Interestingly, it was also used as Trenwith in Poldark. Visitors can book a tour of the house with the Lowsley-Williams family, who live there, and enjoy an on-site cafe and a wild sauna.

Berkeley Castle: Polo Match Venue

Berkeley Castle, on the south side of the Cotswolds, is featured in season two's polo match in the first episode. Dating back to 1153, the castle is still owned by the Berkeley family, 24 generations later. It has also appeared in The Other Boleyn Girl, Poldark, and Wolf Hall. Guided tours of the castle and estate are available, along with a Kitchen Garden Cafe.

Beaufort Polo Club: Elite Sport

Polo plays a major role in Rivals, especially in season two, based on the book Polo. Some scenes were filmed at Beaufort Polo Club, one of the world's most famous polo clubs. The club offers lessons and courses for visitors, and tickets for international matches can be booked in advance.
