Workers in more than 30 professions could unlock savings on energy and household bills ahead of the forthcoming October energy price cap rise, thanks to Blue Light Card. October price cap rise confirmed
With Ofgem's energy price cap due to rise by 4% this week, household budgets are expected to come under even greater strain. The increase will push the annual Ofgem Energy Price Cap to £1,723 for a typical dual-fuel household paying by direct debit — a rise of £60 per year (approximately £5 per month) from the previous cap of £1,663.
Despite this, workers across the emergency services, NHS, social care, teaching profession, armed forces, and beyond could be missing out on incentives worth up to £85 when switching energy providers. Who is eligible for Blue Light Card membership?
Eligible groups include NHS and healthcare staff such as NHS workers, dental practice staff, pharmacy workers, and optometrists. Emergency services personnel covered include ambulance service, fire service (including retired fire service), HM Coastguard, Blood Bikes, Mountain Rescue, 4x4 Response, and Red Cross.
Police and justice roles include Police, HM Prison and Probation Services, MoD Police, and Home Office. Armed forces members include the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, HM Armed Forces Veterans, MoD Civil Servants, and MoD Fire Service. Teaching and education covers the teaching community and retired teaching community. Social care and community includes social care workers, retired social care workers, residential care workers, homelessness workforce, and volunteers. Also eligible are Search and Rescue and Highways England Traffic Officers.
